**Ophelia Averitt: A Legacy of Leadership in Akron NAACP Chapter**
Ophelia Averitt served as the President of the NAACP Akron Chapter from 1993 to 2015. During her 22-year tenure, she was instrumental in advancing education initiatives, mentoring programs, and youth development efforts in the Akron community.
Averitt established college scholarships to support students in pursuing higher education. She also played a pivotal role in organizing programs for mentoring school-aged children and supporting a youth orchestra. Her dedication extended to higher education institutions, where she successfully established NAACP chapters on six college campuses, including The University of Akron and Kent State University.
Averitt's contributions have left a lasting impact on the Akron community and beyond, particularly in empowering young individuals and promoting educational opportunities.
