Ithaca urges residents to clear sidewalks in winter

The City of Ithaca says winter weather is here and asks residents to help keep Ithaca safe and accessible.

City Code requires all sidewalks to be kept free of snow and ice. When sidewalks aren’t cleared, it creates challenges for children walking to school, older adults, people with disabilities, and anyone who relies on safe pedestrian routes. If the City has to clear a sidewalk, the cost may be charged to the property owner under our local code.

Odd-even parking also remains in effect:

  • Park on the even-numbered side of the street on the evening of even-numbered days.
  • Park on the odd-numbered side of the street on the evening of odd-numbered days.

Following these rules helps our plow crews clear streets quickly and safely.

Snow removal is a community effort. If you have a shovel and a little extra time, please consider helping a neighbor who may have difficulty clearing their sidewalk. Small acts of support make a big difference.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Ithaca safe during winter weather.
