Sarasota County Offers Severe Weather Safety Tips

Sarasota County Emergency Services has provided safety tips during Severe Weather Awareness Week focused on thunderstorms and tornadoes. The information explains that storms can produce lightning, damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. Tornadoes may be obscured by rain or clouds, meaning they can exist before they are seen.

The guidance advises people to seek shelter when severe weather conditions occur. It also details key signs of a tornado, which include strong, consistent rotation in a cloud base, a loud continuous roar or rumble that does not fade quickly like thunder, and whirling dust or debris on the ground under a cloud base.

For more information on weather hazards and safety, residents are encouraged to visit florida disaster resources online.
