**Cornell Alumnus Leads Efforts in Landscape Conservation to Protect Wildlife**

Grizzly bears, along with various other species, have been crossing roads more safely thanks to the work of Cornell University alumnus Gary Tabor. An ecologist and wildlife veterinarian based in Bozeman, Montana, Tabor has spent the last 40 years addressing the challenges of habitat fragmentation through a specialized approach known as "large landscape conservation."

Tabor, who graduated from Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1981, has been a global leader in this field, contributing to wildlife conservation projects across six continents. His efforts focus on preserving ecosystems and creating solutions for animals whose natural habitats are increasingly disrupted by human development.

One of Tabor’s most impactful strategies has been designing wildlife bridges over busy roads. These structures are engineered to mimic animals’ natural travel corridors, allowing creatures like grizzly bears and other species to cross safely and avoid vehicle collisions. This innovation has reportedly saved thousands of animals from harm.

In addition to his conservation efforts, Tabor holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine and has hands-on experience caring for wildlife. His work in this area includes treating forest elephants in Uganda, rhinos in Tanzania, and great apes in Central Africa.
